The wedding hair crown, made of flowers and vine, has become a popular accessory trend for brides, particularly for bohemian or woodland weddings. If you aren’t a veil-loving bride (or you want an alternative to wear during the reception), a flower crown may be the perfect choice for you. If you’re wondering how to choose one, we’re here to help with three easy tips along with some beautiful hand-picked examples from the new collection at Violette and Iris! Read on for more…
Wedding Hair Crown Tips
1. Choose flowers which coordinate with your wedding season.
A hair crown can be worn in any season, but as with all wedding flowers you will want to pick seasonal blooms and accents to tie into the climate of your wedding. For instance, a summer wedding with a crown of wildflowers is one perfect example; on the other hand, a mix of acorns and greenery or red berries is a match for winter brides.
Choose the right size
Flower crowns are available in different sizes and styles. One tip on size is to pick one you’ll feel most comfortable wearing (without feeling like you have a too-big crown on top of your head). As a rule of thumb, your hair crown should accent your look without overpowering it. Some hair crowns are petite (think tiny flowers and pearls), while others are significantly larger (huge blooms and over-sized greenery). If you feel comfortable wearing it, you’ve found the perfect size for you.

2. You don’t have to pick between a crown and a veil.
A hair crown is not all or nothing: you can wear it with your veil, too! A veil can be pinned behind the hair crown, if you like. See this example:
If you prefer, wear a veil during the ceremony and swap to a hair crown for a laid-back reception look. Or, wear a flower crown for a bridal photo shoot.
3. Bring your flower crown to your hairstyle trial run.
If you are planning to wear a flower crown during the ceremony, be sure to bring it to your trial run with your hairstylist (approx. 2 weeks before the wedding). This will give you an idea of how to wear your hair (we’ve seen hair-down styles and up-dos with hair crowns — both look great).
