When I got engaged one of the first things I did right off the bat was ask my bridesmaids to be in my wedding. If you’re like me, you’ve probably had your bridal party picked out before your big engagement; I’m someone who really loves to plan ahead.

For years I knew my sister would be my Maid of Honor, as well as the friends I asked to be bridesmaids. (Not sure yet? Read: How Many Bridesmaids Should I Have?) I chose four bridesmaids (including my MOH) and Andrew chose four groomsmen (including his Best Man); it was a perfect-sized bridal party for us.

Once you decide who to ask, the next step is how to ask. For years, asking will you be my bridesmaid was as simple as a phone call or hanging out and asking in person. I asked over the phone, but that was pretty much because once I set my sights on something, I need to do it right away. I’m a planner and a do-er. Goal-getter. And I’m sure you are, too. :)

You can phone a friend, ask next time you see them, or plan elaborate party or brunch, presenting future bridesmaids with gifts and be my bridesmaid cards. There’s no right or wrong way to do it; you simply have to ask.
