When we received the latest Ask Emmaline question from Breanna, we couldn’t wait to share it with you. She writes,
“My fiance and I have a dog named Sadie who has been a big part of our history. We adopted her just a few months after we began dating and it has been now five plus years together. Sadie lives with us both and we all hike, go for walks, etc. together and consider her a part of the family. We don’t have any kids yet so we pretty much treat Sadie like our “kid”. I was telling a bridesmaid about how we plan to have Sadie at the wedding as the “ring bearer” and I even want to include her as part of our wedding cake topper. My bridesmaid thought I was absolutely nuts. Am I being weird? Or is having a cake topper with us and our dog something I should reconsider? Thanks in advance for your help!”
Hey, Breanna– I totally get it. We say, do anything you want to personalize your big day, especially if it means so much to you! We’ve seen cake toppers of all kinds, from the hilarious to the sentimental to the totally fun and modern, all of which could definitely include a dog (or cat, or bird, or dozens of animals). So, don’t tell her we said so, but your bridesmaid is the one being “nuts”. ;) Before Andrew and I had Little Andrew, it was us and the cats at home all the time. And we spoiled them rotten. Now that we have little ones, the cats get wayyy more treats (as in, kid-tossed table scraps) in lieu of belly scratches, but we do what we can. Pets are part of your family and including Sadie in your nuptials isn’t weird at all.
For the ceremony, I do recommend having someone in charge of her, though, during the ceremony and afterward.
It will give you peace of mind while you’re off taking photos. Plus, the dedicated person can make sure Sadie gets down the aisle (hey, dogs can get stage fright, just as ring bearers can), has enough food, water, playtime, and is comfortable (temperature-wise, especially outdoors) while she’s waiting on you two to get hitched. :) Oh, and P.S. this adorable photo and dog sign (which we recommend for dog ring bearers) is from Prince Whitaker.
As far as a cake topper with a dog included, there are tons of options out there. Here are some I’ve handpicked myself to help you (and others who may be wondering the very same thing). Hope it helps!
Cake Topper with Dog
This first topper set is one of my favorites of all time. It’s from Lovebirds Goods and features the dog in front — a really cute way to make him or her stand out.
We love mixing up handmade finds with different textures, so you’ll see a slew of wood peg dolls, clay figurines, bobbleheads and more — including these felt cuties by Mme Hibou.
This clay figurine cake topper with dog is simple and sweet. I adore the pink heart with initials on the left side. By The Rosemarry Toppers.
This figurine cake topper made of clay from Clayphory features a beach wedding scene, bride and groom, two dogs, and one cat. Although any of the designs are customizable.
Here’s another cute wood cake topper with dogs from Enamor Weddings:
This cake topper from The Rosemarry Toppers is entitled Say Cheese: it’s pretty much like a gigantic selfie with you, your groom, and the dog. Cute for obsessive selfie-takers and dog lovers alike. :)
This next one is a modern style that is totally customizable, right down to the color of your hair, skin, eyes… you can even customize what your pup looks like! By ReadyGo.
These next toppers have always been such a unique creation! They are handmade by Star House to your specifications; and like many of these toppers listed, no two are the same.
Have you ever imagined yourself as a bobblehead? Now you can — and you can even have your dog bobblehead-ed, too! This cake topper with dog is so neat! By Bobbleheads Etsy Shop.
How about a silhouette cake topper with dog? This one (by Muggeses) is one example…
… along with this cake topper with dog by Laser Design Shop, to give you two ideas.
We’re including this one, too, because it’s just too darn cute. I love how personalized the dogs are, right down to their fur colors (and collars and adorable little noses). By Goose Grease.
Craving a big of an offbeat or more modern look? Check out this cake topper with dog by The Pixelette. It’s truly one-of-a-kind.
And, last but not least, here are a few clay cake toppers featuring dogs… and I handpicked the last cake topper with dog especially for Breanna, since she mentioned that they go hiking together with their pup, Sadie. All below toppers are by Clayphory.
I hope this round-up of wedding cake toppers with dogs will help you to see that it isn’t “weird” at all to include your pup in your topper or at your ceremony. I think it’s sweet and she’s lucky to belong to such a great family!
Anyway, tell me what you think of these in the comment box below. I’d love to hear from you!
Happy Planning!

[…] Pet lovers… […]
I love this post :).
We were at an outdoor barn wedding last weekend and the bride & groom included their beautiful greyhound. Someone was designated to walk Ellie (dog’s name) down the aisle dressed up in a cute bride outfit. Everyone had such a big kick out of that sight! During the rest of the wedding, Ellie was chaperoned by the couple’s grand parents and was extremely well behaved. While people were mingling and socializing, nobody really noticed her because she was so quiet and stayed out of everyone’s way.
I’ve never seen a dog at a wedding before, but that experience was definitely wonderful! It can totally be done.
