Hi, lovelies! We’re kicking off the brand new week with an Ask Emmaline question about a wedding welcome sign from bride-to-be, Laura. When this question came into our inbox, we were excited because I especially love a good welcome sign. At a wedding, placing a sign at your ceremony or reception instantly makes your space feel warm and inviting. Laura wrote us with the following questions:
Hi Emmaline! I’m planning my wedding for this July and it has a rustic theme. I want a wedding welcome sign to greet guests at the parking lot or entrance of my ceremony or reception space. Should the wedding welcome sign be on display at my ceremony or reception? How do I display it? What kind of welcome sign do you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Wedding Welcome Sign
Hey, Laura! Great question! I love the idea of a wedding welcome sign and have seen this trend more and more these days. The wedding welcomes sign started as a way for guests to know they’re in the right place at a unique venue, i.e. a ceremony at a favorite beach spot, a farm wedding, barn wedding, or even a backyard wedding. These locations weren’t always so commonplace, so adding a welcome sign to your wedding made guests feel more comfortable that they’ve found the right sandy spot, or barn, or they’re at the correct place. Today, though, a wedding welcome sign has become a pretty awesome trend we love, mostly because anything with handmade, personalized, or unique details make us swoon — and we especially admire the added benefit of making your guests feel extra welcome.
Where to Put Your Welcome Sign
So, what kind of wedding welcome sign should you get, and where should you put it? More fantastic questions! A wedding welcome sign works best at your ceremony space near the entry way; imagine a place where guests will really see it. We recommend you use the sign again at the reception, same place (right at your entryway).
How to Display Your Wedding Welcome Sign
You want your welcoming sign to look its best, so you should place it on an easel (a standing easel or tabletop easel) or lean it up against a (sturdy!) backdrop or table. Your venue should have an easel you can rent, but if not, this tabletop easel and this standing easel are both high-rated and very affordable.
What Kind of Wedding Welcome Sign to Get
And last but not least, ah, what kind of wedding welcome sign should you get? This one is my favorite because there are SO MANY beautifully hand-lettered wedding signs on the market right now. Where were you guys when I got married?! To inspire you, we’ve gathered up our favorite wedding welcome signs from the sweet sign shop of Woodland Custom Design (and now with a new website, too!) Elizabeth and Scott are a wife and husband team with some seriously amazing lettering skills.
Take a look at their wedding welcome sign collection, below. We love their styles: they offer all-wood hand-lettered signs and (new!) acrylic hand-lettered signs with your choice of white or gold paint. Your wedding welcome sign is completely custom-made just for you and can include your names, monogram, the wedding date, location — you name it!
