Oh, I just saw that I had to share my story to be eligible! My fiance and I met in a little beach town in southern California where I grew up and he was stationed in the Navy. He got out a few months later and we moved to LA together to follow our dreams in the entertainment industry. After a few years, we realized we wanted something a little more peaceful and a lot more green, so we packed up and moved to a beautiful little town at the base of a mountain in Oregon. We have been here for over a year and we are so in love.
Oh, I love this! My fiance and I met in my hometown and have moved all over the place in our years together. We are getting married in the town we have decided to settle down in, which is new to most of the people attending our wedding. This would be so special to have at our wedding!
I wish I was eligible for this – I live in Canada, sigh. I’m Canadian and my fiance is British. We met on a tour of Russia and Scandinavia. So, basically, we met in a hotel bar in Moscow. We’ve visited back and forth many times, and I lived in London for a while. Five years later, we’ve decided to live on the same continent. Our wedding will be very international, and travel, maps, etc will be our theme.
We met online, and we were hooked from our first date.
I met my fiance in high school, only a month before I graduated. We dated while I was in college and he was in his senior year in high school. The next year he went on to do OSUT training with the Army while I continued with college and even though it was hard, it was more than worth it and we grew through it. Before he even graduated from OSUT he was informed that the unit he would be joining once he returned to South Dakota was due to deploy in a year. He convinced me that after his deployment he was going to ask me to marry him so he asked me to look at rings with him so he could get an idea on what I liked. The morning he was set to deploy we were cherishing the last few hours we had before we had to part. We were laying in bed, I had my head on his chest just listening to his heart beat and he had his arms around me. He kissed me softly on my head and tenderly asked me to marry him. I happily said yes and when we both got up to get ready, he pulled a ring, my favorite one I had seen, out of his toiletry bag and placed it on my finger. Now we are 296 days into this deployment and i’m eager to have him back in my arms once again.
After years of searching, I finally signed up for an online dating website. We met online and had our first date at an Oakland Athletics game – we are both huge fans! A year and 4 months later we were engaged at Disneyland behind Sleeping Beauty’s castle!!
We met through a friend and he had moved to Las Vegas from ID that day. I snagged him immediately!
I met my husband in college while visiting my neighbors in the dorm across the hall. I thought he was very cute, but only saw him a few more times that year. The next year, he became my neighbor across the street and my new roommate’s boyfriend. I was still very fond of him. Their relationship ended and I swooped right in. Now, I know that this is usually a no-no when it comes to friends and roommates, but this situation was a bit different. We were 19 then. We are 29 now, married for 3 years and have a baby boy on the way! He is my best friend and I love him so much!
online – all the cool kids are doing it ;)
Back in 2010 when Greg and I met, we were both in attendance at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY. It was during the setup of the the trade show that I went to visit with folks I knew who were also vendors. I had been looking for some of my acquaintances not realizing this would be my eventual husband with whom I was talking with when I walked up to the one booth. In that exchange, my friend’s husband stepped in and introduced Greg and I. We spent time together over the next few weeks with gentle prodding from our friends getting to know each other and enjoying a once in a lifetime event. Three years later we’re getting hitched!
We met my first week of school! WE were greast firend throughout and started dating once we graduated!
My fiancée proposed on New Years Eve 2013. All of our friends knew about it and even distracted me while he put the ring in my glass of pink (my favorite color) champagne. The reason this proposal was so special and meaningful is because earlier that December my fiancée had to rush me to the hospital. My heart rate was dangerously high and the doctor already knew I had pyelonephritis, which is an extremely dangerous kidney infection, but was worried that I may have had an embolism in my lung. During the CT Scan, I started to fade out and had a near death experience. I knew then that my fiancée was just outside the door and I had to fight to come back to him. The whole time I was in the hospital; from the E.R. to getting to a room; my fiancée never let go of my hand. He even got me on and off a bedpan in the E.R. – that’s how dedicated he was in taking care of me. He spent the night with me sleeping in an uncomfortable chair next to my bed so he could hold my hand, knowing how scared I was about almost dying. We already were deeply in love before this happened but going through such a momentous event only solidified our love. He demonstrated “in sickness and in health” without hesitation.
My husband worked with my brother-in-law and we began hanging out in the same crowd and started seeing more of each other and eventually fell in love.
We met lifeguarding almost 7 years ago.. we were so young!
We met at a graduate school halloween party. Even though we had known each other since school started, it was only after that night that he asked me out.
My fiance and I met when we I was 14, he was 17. We started out as friends, best friends to be exact. He joined the Navy when he was 17 as well, so we have been through many deployments and periods of not being able to talk to each other. We had met through mutual friends online, so it started as a long distance friendship that bloomed into a relationship. We both had dated other people while we were both just friends, but we always had feelings for each other – just, being so young, didn’t know how to tell each other. So he waited, as any gentleman should, until the night of my 18th birthday. He was on deployment at the time, and had just a little bit of phone reception and time. He called me that night, after we had not talked for months due to breaking up (we had only been together a few months, through email mind you, while he was on deployment), and told me that he loved me. That he wanted to be with me for a very long time and didn’t know how to express it. The thing I didn’t find out until later though, he was calling to say goodbye. He didn’t expect to live past that night. He was in the worst of his depression. And from that, he visited me a few months later after he gotten off of his deployment, and though we only had three days together, those three days changed my life. He was then sent to Japan, where he still currently resides, to fulfill his tour over there. And now we wait. We’re getting married on a visit this January, and then I will be moving with him to where he is next stationed after September 2014. Someday we will have a big wedding, but for now it’s just a small courthouse wedding. I feel so blessed to have him in my life. Who knew the world could be so big, yet small enough for two people who had never been anywhere in a close proximity of one another at any point in time in their lives to find each other? Who knows, but I am blessed. :)
We met at a Halloween party. I was dressed as a candy corn and he as Don Draper.
My fiance and I met in the 7th grade. We were always good friends but he’d had a crush on me from 7th grade through highschool and didnt tell me until we graduated. we began dating our freshman year of college and have been together ever since! (10years in Oct). we got engaged this past April during the fire works in front of Cinderella’s castle in Disney world. I’m his real life princess :)
We met while traveling in Croatia. I’m American but was living in Budapest at the time and he’s British and was living in London. We both picked a very random time of year to go on a sailing trip along the coast of Croatia and happened to be on the same boat. It’s a very small world!
We originally met at a fair 6 hours away from where we lived, but nothing ever happened. Then, a year later, he sought me out at a different fair. He would wait for me to go on my break, and we would spend our breaks together. At the end of the fair, he asked me out on a date.
We met through mutual friends (who are actually not together anymore) on St. Patrick’s Day. Needless to say, we don’t remember much from that first encounter but he felt the need to get my number and now we’re getting married next April.
We met at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at our university. Our first interaction was a mission trip we went to with the ministry to New Orleans to help with the Katrina effort that was still needed. We grew to be best friends within the next year after that and then realized through prayer that we should take the next steps into dating. Two and 1/2 years after we started dating, I am now engaged to my best friend who shares my passions for God, missions, and others!
We met while I was in school and he was working for the university I attended. I was transferring out of state within the next month so I kept dodging his attempts to ask me out, so finally he drove 500 miles to surprise me at a mutual friend’s wedding that I was a bridesmaid in. Halfway through the 500 mile return trip home we decided to start dating, and despite the few years of long distance (and even longer distance now that he’s deployed), the rest is history :)
I come originally from Czech Republic and first came to the U.S. two and half years ago on work & travel program that your government offers to international students. Sadly, I ended up working in Oklahoma, selling books for children door-to-door. After three weeks I couldn’t handle this anymore and decided to try my luck in NYC, from where my flight back home booked anyway. So I left Oklahoma with $200 cash, spent 30 hours on bus and came here without having place to stay or job. Found apartment, found two jobs, but after two weeks of crazy lifestyle of working, partying and little sleep I got sick. After spending few free hours with friends in the afternoon I felt really bad and decided to go “home”, so I went to the subway on Times Square, waiting for the train when this guy approached me and asked for the train delays to Astoria. I thought he is a tourist, although he was wearing a nice suit, and I felt like a big new yorker living in the city for 3 weeks, lol. So I answered and because we shared the same route, we talked the whole ride. When we approached my stop I was about to jump out of the subway and never see this guy again. But he walked out with me and we spent another hour chatting outside of my apartment. I gave him my number, we started to hang out. But I had to go back to Europe. We stayed in touch and next summer I was back. The fire started over and we became a couple. But I had to go back once again to finish my masters degree, so for few months it was long distance relationship even though he came to visit me during my birthday. In January this year I came back again, we moved together, and month ago he proposed on the Empire State Building, saying: when we met on Times Square, I might as well propose on Empire State!” Long story short, from absolutely horrifying experience in Oklahoma I am living a fairytale in NYC…
I can’t win this, but it’s only fair to contribute my story, too. ;) My husband and I met in high school at a dance, he asked me out to a movie the following day, and the rest is history! We’ve been together for over 11 years now and will be celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary in a few months. :)
My husband grew up with a group of 6 other guys that nicknamed themselves the ‘7 sluggers’. Wedding for slugger #1 married one of my best friend’s from college in 2008. That is where I met my future husband. However, that night we were not destined to start our relationship – in fact, it took 2 years of me asking my friend about this mysterious man in her wedding…until we were finally reconnected and haven’t gone a day since without talking. It’s crazy to think back on that December night in 2008 that we would be the 7th slugger couple to tie the night 4 years later!
A blind date set up by a mutual friend was the beginning of this beautiful love. The first date was magical! All subsequent dates were filled with romance, passion and laughter!! Seven years later (only 3 of which we dated exclusively) we were in Vegas celebrating my birthday. He proposed to me in from of “a fountain” at Caesars thinking it was “the fountains” at the Bellagio. When I told him these fountains had no music or movement, he dropped down and asked the question I didn’t know I wanted to hear…until I heard it! We will be married in Vegas on 12.13.14!
My fiance and I met online, then in person at a park between where lived, 4 hours away for us both! He moved up to my state, but when we got engaged, we had our engagement pics in the same park where we had met for the first time in person.
We met at a friends birthday party and he proposed 4.5 years later in Rome. It was the most magical night of my life <3
My fiancé met after a tornado destroyed a town near his home. We both came in to help with a volunteer work. We got to know each other over the next few months and started dating about 6 months later. When he proposed he went to a local French restaurant and found out what their slowest day was, and then got my parents and best friend involved. My parents told me they were going to dinner with me there and to dress up, and my best friend told me she was giving him ideas about how to propose and had me convinced that it wouldn’t happen for a few more weeks. When I showed up at the restaurant, there was Phantom of the Opera music playing in the empty room, and he was hiding behind a partition wall on his knee with the ring. He had roses and champagne and wine waiting on the table (eek!!)
I met my fiance at a mutual friend’s bbq while we were both dating other people. A year later, we were single and ran into each other at another event with mutual friends, an oyster-slurp at our favorite happy hour bar. We took a walk together in the park later that evening and have been inseparable ever since!
We met at a local pub’s Rock Band night. He needed a singer for his band & I stepped in & the rest was history!
My fiance and I met in high school online. It was pre facebook and the site listed people you may know. He thought I was cute and friended me. After emails, phone calls, letters in the mail we finally met 6 months later at the half way point between our hometowns with our moms. Fast forward 6 years later and he proposed!
My fiance and I met at Prom. I was wearing a white dress that night.
