We’ll show you what you need to make it yourself, tell you where to find the ingredients for proper presentation, and tell you where this drink really originated from. Enjoy!
Best Moscow Mule Recipe
First of all, here’s a fun fact about the Moscow Mule. Despite its name, the cocktail was not created in Russia. Instead, it was devised in Manhattan, New York in 1941. According to Esquire, where we also found the best Moscow mule recipe, three men from the beverage industry created the drink. Apparently, one was a beer distributor, one was a maker of ginger beer, and the third was a maker of vodka. Together, they put two shots of vodka in ginger beer and squeezed some lime in it and BOOM, drink made.
Interestingly enough, the cocktail was actually given the name “Little Moscow” after this trio’s location at the Chatham Hotel. The drink later became known as the Moscow Mule.
Long story short, another candidate known as Wes Price, a head bartender at the Cock’n Bull restaurant in Los Angeles, claims to have devised it while emptying out open stock from the bar. But who really knows? At the end of the day, all we know for sure is the Moscow Mule is a dang good drink and, when served in its signature copper mug, is a cocktail that is super easy to make.
Andrew and I were inspired to try this recipe, and, after trying a few different variations through they years, we’ve decided that THIS is the best Moscow mule recipe EVER. Take our word for it because this one is delicious.
