Arizona Fall Wedding
Emily tells us how they first met and the proposal, “We worked at the same place. He lived in Tucson and worked from that location but moved to Phoenix when we started dating seriously. I was out of town visiting a friend and unbeknownst to me he went to my parents to ask for their blessing. When we got home from the airport he had a dozen roses and three envelopes saying Our Past, Our Present and Our Future. The past envelope had a picture of us on vacation, the present was empty and the future had a card that said turn around. I did and he was on his knee.”
Photographer and Dress Shopping: “We browsed David’s online gallery and really loved his work. We met with him and really got along so we didn’t bother to meet with anyone else. My two bridesmaids both came in from out of town, one was actually flown in as a surprise to me from my husband. The three of us and my mom went to Azteca and picked out several dresses to try on. It’s true what they say, I knew it was the one when I put it on!”
Theme and color scheme: “The theme was really just the season, fall, and pumpkins. We picked a dark orange, charcoal gray and purple for the colors. We had a few pumpkins I carved along with our last name hung up in the window boxes. There were also tall vases filled with baby’s breath and water. The center pieces were silver pumpkins with real miniature pumpkins, fall leaves and crystals. There were also miniature pumpkins lining the bridge I walked across to the ceremony site and fall leaves lining the aisle.”
Their unique dress attire: “The only really unique thing about the grooms and groomsmen suits were the superhero shirts they wore under them and matching cuff links. The bridesmaids dresses were purple, part of our color scheme.”
Flowers, Food, Entertainment: “Sunflowers are my favorite, so I had miniature ones along with roses and other little flowers. The dinner was chicken Marsala and chicken Alfredo along with salad and vegetables. It was delicious. The Master of Ceremonies and owner of Regale at DC Ranch, Tony Laub, did all kinds of fun games along with a mix of music we selected.”
Your special moments: “Our first dance was fun and lovely. We had been practicing and taking lessons for a couple months. My dance with my father was fun too, we had a fun mix of songs in the middle of our regular song. Also I had surprised Chris with a grooms cake with the superman logo. He was wearing a superman shirt under his tux for a special picture.”
Your biggest surprise: “My parents toast was hilarious! They wrote a rap and sang it. It was definitely a great surprise. As a joke, Chris surprised me with a toast to the Red Solo Cup song by hiding red solo cups under the tables for everyone.”
Personal or handmade touches: “I carved the pumpkins to say E (heart) C and another to say Love. We also had some skulls filled with crystals and lit up with a small bulb for the cocktail tables. Chris and I made a sign out of pallet wood and I stenciled Happily Ever After Starts Here on it and it was set in the park where we were married.”
Advice for other couples: “Enjoy the day, take it all in because it really does go by fast.”
