You will find these succulent wedding favors so ridiculously easy to make, you can do them while catching up on your favorite shows.
Find out how to make your very own DIY succulent wedding favors, get the supplies you need (including where the heck to buy succulents in bulk), and find out two reasons why succulent favors are a great idea for guests and for your budget. Enjoy!
Succulent Wedding Favors
So, here is an example of these succulent wedding favors that are all the rage right now (from La Jolla Jade).
And… here’s what you need to do to make ’em yourself.
Where to Buy Succulents for your Wedding in Bulk
You’re going to need a few supplies. For starters, succulents… and lots of ’em.
Succulents
You’ll want to buy your succulents in bulk because you’ll save a ton of money. I went to my local big-chain garden center today and whoa, succulents are crazy expensive when you buy them individually. Go the route of shops like this or this, or my latest favorite — this shop on Etsy, La Jolla Jade. She has some of the prettiest succulent cuts I’ve ever seen.
Here are some examples from La Jolla Jade:
If you’re craving even more variety, you’ll love these bulk succulents shown below. Here are some examples of the succulents you’ll receive. Aren’t they glorious? Typically, in an order, you won’t get more than two of the same one! That’s a lot of fun for giving away as a wedding favor.
These succulents are shipped in 2-inch pots. That’s good to know, especially when you’ll need to order your next supplies: containers.
Succulent Containers
Containers
The containers you decide to use are completely up to you. You can choose the glass containers, like the photos in our examples, which you can find here. You’re going to want to buy 4 oz. quilted jelly jars. The price is pretty amazing in bulk and having them arrive at your doorstep is way better than carting them around and paying more at a local store. I think so, anyway! This 4 oz. size should be just right for the succulent, allowing for additional soil to be added (as needed) or rocks for the top (if you decide to add them).
Some other containers include these fun finds!
Clay Succulent Planters
I love these white planters, which are a little more pricey but look modern and chic! They even come with bamboo trays. I might even get these for my windowsill.

These colorful glazed clay pots are really fun! A little more pricey, but maybe worth it if you like them enough:

Terracotta Succulent Pots
We’ve seen other examples where brides used terra cotta pots, like these. You can actually order these DIY succulent favors pre-planted right in the pots of your choice! It goes from this…

Perfection. And almost too easy!
If you’re buying succulents elsewhere and want to put them in terracotta pots yourself, you can buy them in bulk here or go to your local craft store. As a note: don’t get plastic. Always get clay. They’ll look much nicer, especially since you’re giving these DIY succulent wedding favors to your guests.
Add your trimmings
soil, rocks, twine and a tag
Add some potting soil, a little water (not too much, follow the directions carefully), some of these rocks or these if you’d like, a bit of twine like this, and a favor tag — something simple like this or this, which already comes with string, works well. Hand-write each guest’s name with these; they are fine-point, permanent, and won’t smudge. They’re my go-to marker for every single craft project.
Why We Love These DIY Succulent Wedding Favors
Still on the fence about giving succulent wedding favors to guests? There are two reasons why they make a brilliant choice.
1. Succulents are so easy to care for + people love plants
Rather than some impersonal favor your guests will eventually toss in the trash, succulents are sweet potted plants that everyone seems to love. Succulents essentially need just a few basics: a little light, a little water, and a lot of love. Giving succulents is a great way to spend your wedding favor budget because it’s not a throw-a-way gift; it’s a wedding favor your guests will enjoy right away at home.
2. Succulent favors can double as escort cards, saving you money
These DIY succulent wedding favors can be used as favors and escort cards or place cards. How to do this: on the tags that are tied around the jar, include the name of the guest and his or her table assignment right on the tag. Then, place these succulent wedding favors at your escort table and include a sign for guests to take one and find their seats. As a bonus, when guests place the succulents at their place settings, these sweet potted plants will double as added table decor.
I hope you enjoyed these DIY succulent wedding favors as much as we did! If you’re making your own, snap a photo in the comments! We’d love to see your beautiful favors!
Happy Planning!

i love this. but what about people who have to go home on planes? how can they transport it? or not?
Great point. I think they’re small enough to fit in a suitcase, and I think you can transport as a carry-on.

Great find, Danielle! Thanks!
best favor idea. Can anyone tell me how many ounces those jars are pictured? i want to order bulk ones online but there are so many options and I can’t seem to find that specific jar. i dont want to order anything too large or too small.
many thanks!!
How many oz are the glasses jars pictured here? I want to try to get jars small enough so they stay as cute as these!
Hi,
do succulents really come in miniatures, naturally? I use to raise them in a greenhouse, small one, along with other plants. They were so easy. What kind of soil do you plant them in, I use to use cactus soil I believe, water only when soil was dry. What’s new in succulents? Flo
Ikea also has great prices for succulents!
Hi Autumn,
Yes! Great point. I was there recently and definitely noticed the vast array of succulents. Thanks for the comment! :)
