If you are looking for a mens wedding ring made of wood, but you’re wondering… do wood inlay rings last? You’re not alone! Today we’re answering the question from bride-to-be, Nicolette, and her fiancé, Tom. They’re looking at wood wedding rings and he specifically wants a wood inlay ring, since he feels like it will offer more durability for day-to-day wear.
They ask, “We’re looking at wood inlay rings after seeing a few examples online. Tom wants a wood inlay (rather than an all wood ring) but with a metal band. Do wood inlay rings last?”
Hi Nicolette and Tom! Thanks so much for writing. I totally hear you about wanting mens wedding bands that last; after all, when we shopped for Andrew’s ring, he picked out titanium so it would last a long time. I remember shopping for mens wedding bands and not having any idea what style was best. It really depends on what you like when you’re shopping; everyone’s style is different!
Since he already likes wood wedding rings — and the rings with a wood inlay, I like those, too! — you will be happy to know that with the proper protective coatings, varnish, and maintenance, your wooden wedding band can last a long time.
Most of the time, you’ll find wooden inlay rings have a protective, shiny varnish in the inset to keep it from breaking down over time. Solvents are not good for wood, so it is recommended to remove your wood ring if you work in an environment where you’ll be washing your hands a lot or using antibacterial or cleaning products.
If you’re going to do extensive working out, outdoor work, watersports, etc., it may be best to remove your ring to avoid additional wear and tear on your wood ring. You can wear one of these as a temporary placeholder, which many men like to wear at the gym or at work.
If you take good care of your wood ring, it should last a long time; if you notice the finish starting to disappear, get a new finish added as soon as possible to protect your wood inlay ring.
These rings are designed with a comfort-fit curved inner band made from polished koa wood (these rings are from MensRingsOnline).

What is better a ring or cufflinks? Is it a binary choice?
