Is your dog your BFF? Are you and your soon-to-be spouse crazy over your four-legged friend and want him or her to be a part of your wedding day? Well, we have quite the fun finds for you today. If you’re not a dog-lover, go adopt one already because it only takes a minute to fall head-over-heels for ’em. I had dogs growing up, puppies even, and the attachment is real. When I moved out on my own, I adopted two kittens. Long story short, I spent many years as a cat-only household and, while cats are super awesome in their own right, a cat does not want to be a part of your wedding. I read a quote on a coaster recently that summed it up: “If a cat could text you back, it wouldn’t”. Cats are lovers, too, but they’re independent. They would rather you go off and enjoy the best wedding ever and bring them home the leftover fish. You can tell them about it, but they’ll probably drift off to sleep or interrupt your story by bathing. That’s just how they are.
But dogs… they want a wedding invitation, they want to ride with you in the limo, sit on your gown while you put on your lipstick, and sit at your feet during dinner (hoping for a table scrap, but still). A dog would wag his or her tail all night long, just happy that you’re happy, even if he or she was ready for bed. A dog would be the first one up at dawn to watch you do hair and makeup, and the last one on the dance floor if you were still dancin’. And then want to go home and sleep in your bed and hog the covers and steal your pillow. And snore.
If you asked me about dog wedding ideas — ah, half a year ago — I would have thought it was an interesting request. That’s because six months ago Andrew and I and our sweet boys adopted a labradoodle named Ruby and SHE IS THE BEST. (If you follow on IG, you may remember her cameo appearance here.)
Here’s our Ruby Sue!
Months ago, the concept of wedding ideas to include your dog would sound interesting… but now I really get it. I do. And don’t misunderstand me, as I still wholeheartedly love cats. In fact, my giant cat Geppetto is sitting next to me as I type and constantly steals any blankets in bed, so don’t think for a second I’m not a dog lady AND a cat lady. ;) You can totally be both.
But I digress. Back to dog wedding ideas.
If you want your dog to be a part of your wedding, whether in spirit (i.e., your dog would trip you down the aisle and bark throughout toasts, promptly knock over the wedding cake and cause a ruckus, even though you love ’em) or physically there, fur and all (i.e. to serve as dog ring bearer or “dog of honor”), we’ve got you covered. We’ve curated the coolest list of dog wedding ideas featuring dog wedding signs, dog collars, save the date ideas, and more, all beautifully handcrafted by artists who adore pups just as much as you do.
