Is it ok to buy an engagement ring on Etsy?
You’ve heard of buying engagement rings online, but on Etsy? From independent sellers? Is it safe to do so?
Yes, Etsy is a great place to shop engagement rings and is a popular spot for jewelry of all kinds — engagement rings included — as long as you do some review-reading first, as you would with any major purchase online.
Many brides swear by the marketplace for their wedding dresses, too, so that proves two major purchases that are making waves in this popular marketplace.
Etsy has been around for many years and has only grown in popularity among a variety of categories. Procuring engagement rings from their worldwide marketplace is just the thing for people who love artisan-quality jewelry and one-of-a-kind pieces, and the result is amazing based on reviews we’re seeing.
It’s a win-win for everyone: small businesses get exposure worldwide to showcase their work, and individuals can purchase directly from the designer. Personally, I’ve purchased many times on Etsy for a variety of things and have never had a poor experience.
Etsy Engagement Rings
Buying engagement rings on Etsy is no different than shopping online from any major jewelry retailer. There is always that feeling of nervousness when making a big purchase online, but if you know exactly what to look for BEFORE you buy engagement rings on Etsy — and you know the best, most reputable places to shop — then you’ll be on your way to scoring an amazing find that you won’t find in stores.
And you’ll have the advantage of working directly with the maker or designer of the ring, something most people see as one of the many pros of shopping Etsy engagement rings.
At large jewelers, you can’t usually “meet” or talk about custom options with the maker. The ring you see under the glass is the ring you can purchase. But online through Etsy, you can discuss custom options, ask questions, get advice on the design you’re looking for, and more, many of its major benefits.
Before You Shop Engagement Rings on Etsy
There are a few tips to consider before you buy, but these are no different than the typical warnings you would heed when shopping for anything online — there’s just more pressure since an engagement ring is such a precious and monumental gift.
1. Read Etsy Reviews.
Take note of the Etsy seller’s ratings and reviews. Be sure to read reviews before you shop.
2. Take note of ratings.
Does the seller average a 3-star or less overall rating? Find out why.
If there is a 1-star rating, what is the reason for it?
Beware of comments from buyers who state they never received their item or communication with the seller was poor. These are very rarely seen on Etsy, but they happen from time to time, so it helps to do your homework.
If you notice a usually-5-star rated shop with a 1-star here or there, read why. Usually, there’s a reason behind it (such as miscommunication on the order, late shipping time, etc.) One bad review in the bunch doesn’t mean the seller isn’t a great one. Things happen.
You’re really looking to make sure the seller is providing the engagement ring as depicted, in the timeframe they promise, and at the quality you deserve.
3. Look for Star Sellers, Etsy Picks, or Bestsellers.
Many shops have a wonderful reputation on Etsy. There are some superstar shops that even get a coveted ‘Star Seller’ seal or are selected as an ‘Etsy’s Pick’ or ‘Bestseller’. You can see these notations in the shop and usually under the listing in the search. These notations can give you more confidence when you shop.
4. Be wary of extremely good deals.
As with anything you buy online if the price is too good to be true… it probably is.
If you’re planning to buy a diamond engagement ring, moissanite, gemstone, etc., do your due diligence and make sure you’re getting a certification with your purchase.
In addition, if the price is an extremely good deal for a ring that would otherwise cost thousands more, it’s probably not legit. Move on!
Best Engagement Rings on Etsy
Now that you know what to do before you shop, let’s get to the list! There are far too many listings to sort through (um, at the time of publication, there were over 498,000 finds from which to sort… so we did all the hard work for you. :) You don’t have time for that, you have a proposal (and wedding!) to plan.
So, here are the best places to shop engagement rings on Etsy. These are stores I would refer to my own family and friends; these are places I would shop myself if buying jewelry, or recommend to someone purchasing a handmade engagement ring.
Remember: each purchase gives joy to a real person, supports a real business, and gives you the unique engagement ring you’ve been seeking.
