Two of our best friends, Holly + Mike, are getting married this November! They sought our help in planning their wedding and we couldn’t be more excited for them. That’s why we’re featuring their Independence Oaks engagement session today. Independence Oaks park is a beautiful setting in Clarkston, Michigan for taking photographs as it’s filled with great walking trails, shady trees, and a lake. On a recent summer evening just before dusk they met with Mark from You Bet I Do Photography. Once at the park, they strolled along the walking path and stopped at the lake for Mark to capture a few photographs. Holly and Mike chatted, laughed, and just had fun throughout the rest of their e-session. When you look at their photographs it’s easy to see their love for one another and the special connection that they share. See the photographs, find out how they met, and hear how Mike proposed…

How They Met – Believe it or not, setting friends up worked with Holly and Mike. It all started with Holly’s friend and college roommate Katrina. Katrina is married to Jeff, my college roommate. We’re all great friends and were looking to match Mike up with the perfect woman. Alarm bells went off in Katrina’s head. She said, “I bet my friend Holly and him would really hit it off!” After talking about it for a few months, a group date was planned at local pizza place. Mike had no idea he was going to meet Holly until just hours before the date. The pressure was on. Once they met, they hit it off right away! They spent every weekend traveling to see each other. Holly lived across the state in Grand Rapids, but it didn’t take long until she moved, to be closer to Mike. Love stories like theirs seem rare but being introduced by friends really payed off for them. They’re two fantastic people and together, they’re even better.
How Mike Proposed – Mike tells us, “I took a secret half day from work, and got home before Holly to prepare. When she came home from work in her scrubs, I was in the kitchen on my knee with the ring, a dairy queen blizzard cake and flowers. She said yes and then we went out to eat at the melting pot (which was supposed to be a fancy place). We heard great things about it, but didn’t realize it was one of those you cook your own food type of places (so we paid a lot to cook our own meal). But it all worked out haha.”
