Kayla + Tom’s Classically Vintage Wedding

Today we’re featuring Kayla and Tom’s classically vintage wedding. From Kayla’s beautiful dress and grand wedding reception at the First Luthern Church to the artsy and industrial reception place at The Plains Art Museum, this wedding depicts a beautiful vintage wedding at its fullest. Kayla and Tom’s North Dakota wedding was captured by Yvonne and Sara from Yvonne Denault Photography.

The bride Kayla fills in on their details, “Tom and I met the second week in August 2007. We were on a blind date that began as a double date with Tom’s sister Aana and boyfriend Josh. Little did we know, Josh and Aana would leave us to be on a blind date! It worked out perfect, Tom and I hit it off and were pretty much inseparable for the next three and a half years. Tom proposed the evening of December 2009 in downtown Fargo. I was so surprised, I will never forget that moment.

April 30, 2011 was a very special memorable wedding day. Tom and I will never forget how great the day was! My sister, Valerie was my matron of honor. She came from Boise, ID the week before to help prepare for the special day. She brought my beautiful nieces, Madilyne(4y) and Gabriella (18m) who were also my flower girls. Tom had his best friend Travis as his Best Man. The ladies got ready in the Radisson Hotel with Emily Newcomb doing our hair and Makeup. She was amazing! She came at 8 am, brought a studio of makeup and hair products. She applied airbrush makeup to my sister and I which made us feel amazing, and it didn’t move all day, but was very breathable! Emily’s assistant did my bridesmaid’s Alison and Aana’s hair as well as my Mom and nieces.

From the Radisson, my bridesmaids and I moved to the church where we got into our dresses and met Yvonne Denault for pictures. Yvonne was amazing, as was Sara, her second photographer. They worked for nine hours straight taking hundreds of pictures. My bridesmaid dresses were strapless “pink” chiffon floor length dresses from David’s Bridal. I wanted something that was forgiving and flattered all body types, but was very neutral in color. The girls looked wonderful in their dresses. My wedding dress was also from David’s Bridal, a strapless lace trumpet style gown. It was beautiful. I fell in love with it the moment I put it on. My first veil was a mid-length veil with lace edging to match the gown. After the ceremony, we changed my veil to a fascinator that I found on Etsy.com. It was so darn cute, I couldn’t resist.

My something blue was my Badgley Mischka peep toes. I wore a pearl necklace from my aunt in law as my something borrowed. My something new was pearl earrings from my mother-in-law. My something old was a piece of my mom’s wedding dress around my bouquet (and probably my favorite of them all). Tom wore a three piece charcoal suit from Men’s Wearhouse and his groomsmen and ushers wore matching suits from there as well. Pink ties tied the bridesmaids and groomsmen together. Our flowers were done by Hornbachers in north Fargo. I am in love with peonies and the florist was able to find them in April. Tom and I bought apothecary jars and pink candy and made a “Candy Bar” for our favors. We also had small place cards at each table that were plantable wildflowers! After the ceremony, the wedding party left the church in a limo and went to the reception in style. Our reception was held at the Plains Art Museum. We absolutely loved it. Seating was up on the third floor were Mosaic Foods served hor devours and the museum served drinks. The food was amazing! Our centerpieces were simple, a few peonies in a square vase. After dinner, we moved to the first floor for the dance. Dance Machine with Larry O’Brien was our DJ, he did an amazing job meeting our needs for music. Tom and my first dance was Moon River sung by Louis Armstrong. It was magical. Tom and I stayed the night at the Hodo in downtown Fargo.”

I would say our overall theme, if we had one, would be classically vintage. I focused on keeping everything simple. The day couldn’t have gone better. We had the funniest weather, snow, rain, sideways rain, 50 mph gusts, but it was still amazing.
