Around here, we’re crazy over details, themes, and ultra-fun ways to put your own personal touch on your big day. There’s no single theme we can’t turn into an ultra stylish fete, with just enough creativity to make it all seamlessly blend together. So when Mia wrote to us about her fiance, Tom, and his love for fishing, we were all over it. We couldn’t wait to answer her question and prove that she could wow him with a few secret fishing ideas thrown into the mix that he’ll love — without compromising on the stylish wedding of her dreams. Here’s what she wrote:
[su_quote cite=”Mia”]My fiance and I are planning a June wedding and he LOVES fishing. He goes fishing as often as he can and I’ve even started fishing with him. I want to surprise him with a few fishing details, without it turning into a fishing themed wedding or going overboard. Any ideas on what I can do?[/su_quote]
Not only is it possible, it’s so easy to do!
First, plan your engagement shoot around an outdoorsy / fishing theme, complete with a tackle box that has your wedding date on it. You can have this photo printed onto a postcard and sent to guests as your save the date. (Save the date cards are less formal and do not need to follow any sort of theme or palette, which means you don’t have to necessarily follow it up with a fishing invitation). ;)
Or send a save the date like this cute one from Howl Creative Co.
If you are interested in fishing wedding invitations, you’re in luck: we’ve found two suites that you’ll love.
When it comes to decor within your wedding itself, the key to maintaining a formal atmosphere is to pick just a few details. Don’t pick too many elements; instead, choose just a handful of your favorite touches. These table numbers are fish themed, but look very elegant paired with vases of flowers and candelight.
Other areas you can decorate include your head table. For instance, these wine glass markers are shaped with fish and personalized.
These fish signs are a cute touch for the head table.
Your cake is one of the easiest ways to personalize your wedding. Here are a handful of cake toppers that are perfect for a fishing wedding theme.
If you’re planning a groom’s cake, order him one with a fishing theme, like this. It is a giant tackle box!
Wear this garter as a surprise — and if you choose navy or blue thread, it counts as “something blue”, too.
For him, we’ve found a wedding band with a fly fishing motif and a pair of cuff links with fishing hooks.
Don’t forget a boutonniere! This bout from The Ritzy Rose is made with unique brooch flowers and a fishing lure.
And for the groomsmen, we’ve found pocket knives engraved with their names and/or wooden fly fishing cases.
And I couldn’t help but mention these fishing reel cufflinks, too!
Use a return stamp like this on your outgoing wedding stationery. Plus, you can keep using it long after the wedding.
For guests, give them koozie favors! There’s a camouflage one — if he’s very outdoorsy — or a solid color one, if you’re not feelin’ the camo vibe.
And finally, don’t forget a guest book. This cute fish guest book alternative is by MDB Weddings.
Hope it helps!
