Cute Wedding Clutches
Before we dive into the interview, check out this darling bridal clutch — it’s one of my favorites from her collection!
When did your company Emma Gordon London begin? Where are you based?
“Emma Gordon London began in 2003. I’m based in England.”
“After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts, I went to work for a handbag manufacturer in London, supplying handbags to the high street.
I realised I needed to work with my hands and wanted to create something more personal and meaningful, so I decided to set up my own label designing and making everything myself. This is still how I work all these years later – which I love!”
“In a throw-away world, I think it’s important to design my clutches in a way that makes them easy to use time and time again – to stand out but keep it simple, elegant and timeless.”
“Each and every piece is handmade to order, so every bag received is unique, made up especially for it’s new owner. I believe this is a lovely way of shopping and is certainly a lovely way of working.”
“I like to keep the designs simple (and easy to use) but add subtle details to make them stand out from the crowd – this might be in the form of glittery lettering, bows, contrasting piping trims, etc. I also offer a special custom-made service – so if customers see a clutch they love but it’s not the right colour or they might prefer a bow instead of a flower or for the bow to be taken off completely – that’s no problem. The aim of this service is to create their perfect clutch. One that they will come back to time after time – because it’s just right for them.”
Your favorite time to design is…
“Early morning!”
What inspires you to create?
“I’m inspired by all things pretty. Especially nature – from the close-up detailing and colour scheme of a perfect flower to the rolling and amazing views of the lush, green countryside or the coast.”
“The MRS Bridal clutch!”
Shown below:
“My clutches are all made from fabric – my favourite is duchess satin. I love the heavy weight of it and the subtle sheen which creates a luxurious look and feel. I also use a lot of lace – I find that heavier corded lace works really well alongside the duchess satin because it’s more hardwearing but still so delicate and pretty. Every clutch is lined with stripy cotton – in a colour to match the outer. For the bridal bags, this is aways light blue and white – for the ‘something blue’!”
“I work mainly with brides; my favourite part of dealing with brides is how excited and happy they are to be getting married. I love that I get an insight into their wedding and I get to see their dresses (so that I can help them choose the right clutch or custom-make something to match). It’s always so nice to hear from them after they’ve received their clutch – to know that something I have made is so special to them and will be playing a part in their big day.”
“Instagram!”
