Are you including directions in your wedding invitations? Should you? Do you have to include directions in invites? We’re tackling this question today with some helpful advice.
How to Include Directions with Wedding Invitations
First things first, yes, you should include directions in your wedding invitations. Why? Well, although guests usually have a smartphone within arm’s length and it’s easy to search for the location, it’s much more leisurely if they have the directions printed on paper. Fact.
Years ago, it was proper wedding etiquette to include a map AND directions in invitations, but now that a map is so easy to attain with one’s phone, a map is not a requirement. (Maps are a cute touch, though, so if you’re still interested, go for it!)
However, you should include directions in wedding invitations. At the very least, include the full address of both the wedding ceremony venue and the reception site (if the locations are separate) on a directions card (aka an enclosure card) in your wedding invitations. This will ensure your guests find the venue easily and don’t get unnecessarily stressed out while driving around. :) This is particularly helpful if they aren’t familiar with the area.
Can’t guests just look up the address themselves? Sure! But it is a nice gesture to include directions. I personally appreciate it when a couple includes directions, simply because it gives me that extra confidence of knowing where to go. And if you know me at all, my phone battery is probably low from taking so many photos at the reception, so relying on a good connection and battery power to get to the next location isn’t the easiest without a pitstop to recharge. ;)
Finding the reception is much easier when there is a directions card included in the wedding invitations.
Enclosure Cards with Directions
Now that you know you should include directions with invites, how do you write directions on a wedding invitation? It’s easy: use an enclosure card. You can get enclosure cards printed from Minted here with the details of your choice.
I admire the variety of directions cards you can get for wedding invites from their store. I recommend choosing a style that complements your invitation suite by matching your color palette, theme, and tone. I’ve hand-picked a few examples to illustrate what to look for, as well as how to word direction cards in wedding invitations so guests can find their way with ease.
It also helps to include a link to your wedding website, since guests can access the address directly, as well as other helpful links associated with your wedding.
