Beecher Island Wedding
Emmy tells us, “Kait and Joby’s wedding was absolutely beautiful; every single detail had an deeper value to the bride and groom, which made it all the more beautiful. As a photographer who loves capturing the story, it can become tedious to capture every detail of the wedding. But capturing Kait and Joby’s wedding was so much fun because every detail meant so much to them. From the table runners being a piece of family history, to the venue being a piece of history in the couple’s hometown, to the potted plants reflecting their growing up in a small farm town, to the church pews sitting outside showing they loved the beauty of outdoors but loved community of people around them… everything perfectly fit Kait and Joby’s ‘high school sweethearts’ love story.”
Kait tells us, “It was important to me that we get potted plants, instead of cut flowers, to enjoy all summer long! I always hate to see flowers die. I was also excited about the table runners, which were just long 2x12s (that actually came from Joby’s family’s barn that was torn down a year or so before). And the other thing that sticks out to me now is my bouquet. I originally did not want to carry a bouquet, but my mom insisted and picked out a florist for me—and I LOVED IT. I was so surprised, but I just kept staring into the bouquet that day, seeing all the beauty that surrounded us on our wedding day.”
Why did you choose to get married where you did? “We chose Beecher Island for several reasons. A) We both grew up in the area, so it made sense to have our wedding there too. B) My parents were married there as well as my oldest brother and his wife. That meant a lot to us, as we admire and love both couples very much. C) It is a beautiful outdoor setting and just what we were looking for. Plus the cost to rent the whole place for three days was only $100!”
Why was your wedding unique? “Because it was ours, of course! But I think what made it ours was primarily the location, the ceremony, and the auditorium. I think the location made all the difference, and I really ended up loving the wooden pews instead of white chairs. The ceremony was, of course, magical to me but especially so because of the thought we put into it. I spent our entire engagement (over a year) writing and tweaking my vows and at least six months thinking about what readings and traditions we wanted to include (or not include). And then, of course, the reception turned out to be more than I even imagined! The old building with brick walls and wooden ceiling was easy to work with, but I also loved how we incorporated chandeliers (and other such items) to make it feel more like a wedding. And of course, the food! We picked our favorite foods to feed our guests, so we, at least, liked it!”
Where did you find your inspiration? “Pinterest! And my mom. She has always been an impressive planner, but she was more than impressive regarding our wedding. She had several ideas I never considered, and she certainly helped me cover the details—and the devil is in the details, I learned!”
