Today we are sharing a charming rustic wedding with tons of DIY details. Sarah and Pete married on October 2, 2010 at Bishop Farm Bed and Breakfast in Lisbon, New Hampshire. HinkleyPhoto based in New Hampshire provided the beautiful imagery and captured every last detail. We especially love the 3-tiered wedding cake, the flowers (provided by EH Floral), and the happy couple (that’s what it’s all about). The bride looked positively stunning. We adore her gown, peep-toed heels, and red cardigan: we love when brides add a bold burst of color! Additional details such as the tent with red + white lanterns, the rustic table settings, bunting, and handmade photo booth added memorable, personal details to the day. The bride, Sarah, recounts the day in her own words. Take it away, Sarah! ♥
“When my husband and I got engaged and first started thinking about where we wanted to get married we both immediately thought of Bishop Farm Bed and Breakfast just north of the White Mountains in Lisbon, New Hampshire. We first visited this location for a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend back in 2008 and subsequently fell in love with the place and its owners.
The few days leading up to our wedding were rainy, cold, stressful… and wonderful! We arrived a few days early and began the preparations for our amazing weekend. About half way through our first day the rain began. All of a sudden it was like monsoon season had arrived in our sleepy little corner of New England and wouldn’t stop! For two… whole… days it rained. Because of this ALL of the preparation had to wait until the morning of the wedding.
Thankfully we have an amazing group of family and friends and they all came to the venue the afternoon of the day before and helped to decorate the wedding tent. It was a blur of activity with cousins and uncles rigging all of the lighting, aunts and moms setting up the reception tables, and even my husband’s 90 year old grandmother chipped in and got all of the candles set up and ready to go. The next morning all of those people came back and helped with the finishing touches. It was the perfect example of the saying “it takes a village”.
The day of our wedding, October 2, 2010, arrived and the weather was BEAUTIFUL… it was a perfect crisp autumn day in New England. The love we felt was overwhelming… everywhere we looked we were reminded of the love and support it took to get us to our wedding day. From the faces of our wedding guests smiling back at us at we took our vows to the tables squares our aunt so lovingly sewed for the wedding tables; the dance floor that was packed all night long to the favor bags that were filled cookies made from my husband’s old family recipe and baked by my mother; from my godfather who performed the wedding ceremony to the programs and escort cards we designed and made ourselves; the amazing florist who understood our vision and made it her own to the husband and wife photographers who captured it all so beautifully; and the lights and lanterns my husband and his cousins and uncles hung to our PERFECT “First Look” moment on top of a hill overlooking the grounds of the bed and breakfast.
I always look back at our wedding weekend as a true reflection of my husband and I. We planned the entire thing as a team and everything about it represented what we hold most dear… family, friends, laughter and love. The fact that we created this event out of our love for each other is amazing to me…. we couldn’t have asked for a better start to our marriage.”
