10 Best Tips for Planning a Fall Wedding

by Emma Arendoski

Planning a fall wedding? Don’t miss this post! P.S. Make sure you’re subscribed for the latest wedding planning tips.

Hi, loves! I know it’s July, and there is plenty of summer left (it just got started, tbh) but fall wedding season is right around the corner. For brides who are planning a fall wedding, now is the time to decide everything for your ceremony and reception, especially when it comes to your decor. I think fall is the best time of year with the falling leaves, vibrant colors, sweaters, jeans, boots, plaid shirts, cider, donuts… some of the sweetest things in life, I say! It’s no surprise many brides are planning a fall wedding and opting for cooler temps and cider toasts. I don’t blame them one bit.

Whether you’re planning a fall wedding and need ideas right now or you’re planning one for next year, this post has ten key tips you’ll need. Read on to see our best tips for planning a fall wedding!

TIP: Wear boots. You’ll stay warm + boots make for fantastic photos. Try this adorable pair. These are super cute, too. Here are boots your bridesmaids will love.

Fall Wedding Tips

1. Use seasonal stationery.

Beau-coup Wedding Favors

When planning a fall wedding, kick off the theme from the start with save the date cards and invitations.

2 – heart and fox
3 – wide eyes design
4 – mavora
6 – nine7ohdesigns
7 – magnetstreet
8 – amanda day rose

2. Keep guests warm (and yourself).

It might be freezing outside… prepare accordingly! Offer throw blankets for guests to borrow, a pashminafor each bridesmaid, and a hot cocoa (see number 33) / coffee warming station to keep guests cozy.

P.S. Bride: wear a cardigan for a pop of color + much needed coziness.

3. Use nature’s backdrop to your advantage.

Don’t miss out on the changing colors that surround you. When you’re planning a fall wedding, don’t forget to fully embrace the backdrop provided by nature by taking plenty of wedding photos outdoors.

I mean, just look at all this beauty!

4. Share fall foods + beverages.

I already mentioned hot cocoa and coffee (don’t forget this), but seasonal teas, hot or cold apple cider, donuts, candy apples, and pies are all part of the fall fare. Oh, and pumpkin cream cheese muffins? Yeah, put that as number one on the list. (See it here in number 5). Try these fall desserts for weddings, too.

5. Tie in seasonal decor.

Use gourds, pumpkins, and corn stalks when decorating; seat guests on hay bales (covered in blankets). Decorate with fall themed centerpieces. Sprinkle colorful leaves down the aisle in lieu of rose petals; carry a bouquet of wildflowers or wheat in lieu of traditional flowers. (Learn how to preserve leaves for use throughout your event.)

\6. Dress bridesmaids in rich hues.

Pops of red (such as burgundy), brown, orange, or gold are a few colors to consider when planning a fall wedding. Check out dresses by Coralie Beatrix for inspo.

7. Serve a thanksgiving-style rehearsal dinner.

Serve turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, corn, and all the fixin’s for a traditional Thanksgiving-style meal for your rehearsal dinner. Don’t forget to top it off with apple pie.

8. Have a cozy place for guests to gather.

Getting married outdoors? Make sure there’s a place for guests to gather afterward – likely, your reception space – that provides warmth for guests. Fall weather is unpredictable, and a cold forecast means guests might not stay as long if they’re uncomfortably chilly.

9. Give themed gifts.

Give gifts to your bridesmaids that are cozy-themed. Warm moccasin-style slippers or a cozy plaid blanket are just a few ideas.

10. Give fall themed favors to guests.

Try these fall wedding favor ideas… or these edible favors. Guests will love ’em!

Have fun!

Right now, I’m trying to help my sister finish up the plans for her fall wedding. We’ve got pretty much everything, including flowers, planned out. However, I really like the idea about having themed gifts. I probably would do the gifts for the entire wedding party, though, and not just the bridesmaids.

Great post! I love the Apple pie jar favor, candy apples, and Thanksgiving dinner ideas! Maybe I’m just really hungry, but I would love to attend a fall wedding with those! The coralie dress is a gorgeous color.
