Hi, lovelies! This new Ask Emmaline question comes to us from Lauren who wants to know where to buy glow sticks for wedding receptions. She asks,
Hi Emmaline Bride! My question is where to buy glow sticks for wedding receptions. I need at least two hundred of them and they need to be super cheap (but good quality). We want our guests to use them on the dance floor and then as a “grand exit”. Thanks!
Great question, Lauren! A glowstick grand exit sounds like a lot of fun, especially when guests can break them open ahead of time and light up the dance floor!
For your amazing glowstick grand exit, you’ll want to gather up a few things.
– WHAT YOU NEED FOR A GLOW STICK WEDDING EXIT –
Glow sticks are a fun wedding favors guests of all ages love (and, bonus, it’s a great way to entertain kids at your wedding). Here’s what you need for a glow stick send off (or glow stick favors).
o Glow Sticks in Bulk
You will want glow sticks that are available in bulk (for cheap, to save money!) One rule of thumb: look for long-lasting glow sticks. You’ll find there are tons of bulk glow sticks out there — all competitively priced — but most have shorter life spans. Choosing glow sticks for wedding receptions that offer 8 to 12 hours of glow power will last long enough to the grand exit, even if guests break them open at the start of your reception.
These are glow sticks for wedding reception are super cheap: 300 for UNDER $20 with an 8-12 hour glow time. Win-win. By PartySticks.
They have connectors so guests can piece them together to make bracelets or necklaces. I don’t know why this is more fun; it just is. Anytime you go to a wedding reception with glow sticks, there’s always a handful of guests making super long necklaces out of them and having a blast. :)
o Signage
You need to place the glow sticks on a table with adequate signage so guests are encouraged to take one. If you want guests to use the glow sticks for fun photos on your wedding dance floor, just place a sign that reads, “Take One” or “Glow Sticks: Light Up the Dance Floor!” This sign, below, is perfect for a rustic wedding from Dutch Goldfinch.
If you want guests to take glow sticks for wedding grand exits, too, be sure to place a sign like this (by Soulmates and Scripts):
o Glow Stick Tags
Many couples like to use these glow sticks tags, which add a personalized flair to your glow stick grand exit. You can use these tags in lieu of a sign. By Just For Keeps.
o Container
Place your glow sticks in a container for guests to grab. We recommend a glass vase, something fun + modern like this prism vase (from here):
I recommend this one because you’ll definitely use it again at home after the wedding. :) I know I would – it’s a cute flower vase!
This one is also a great choice. If you’re using a glass vase, it just needs to be slightly shorter than 8″ (the length of the glow sticks) so they stick out a bit and are easy for guests to grab. This vase is 6″.
That’s really all there is to it! Make sure you add your glow stick send off to your list of wedding photo must-haves to capture the moment!
Hope it helps! If you have a question for our Ask Emmaline series, submit it here. It could appear in an upcoming blog post like this one. :)
Happy Planning!

Like this idea because my venue doesn’t let us do sparklers! Thanks for the tips!
No problem! Many sparklers are being banned from venues, so it’s a great alternative for sure (and much safer).
