The average cost of wedding invitations is from $400 to $600 for most couples. But there are some clever ways to save money on wedding invitations and we’re showing you how to do it!
Here are some easy ways to cut costs on wedding invites.
How to Save Money on Wedding Invitations
1. Proofread.
Oh, proofreading: it’s not the most exciting thing on the menu, I know.
But proofreading is one of the easiest ways to save money on wedding invitations before you order.
If you purchase invitations with grammatical or spelling errors — or simply incorrect information — you’ll need to re-order ALL of your wedding invitations all over again in order to fix it.
Here’s exactly what to look for when you’re proofreading invitations.
• Check spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. But don’t stop there: double-check the address of your ceremony/reception venue(s), date, time, and any additional enclosures included to make sure everything is correct.
• Some couples overlook names: make sure everyone’s name, including the couple’s name and parents, are spelled correctly.
• Double-check the wedding website address, if you’re including a link, to make sure it is correct.
• And lastly, ensure your return address is printed correctly on your RSVP envelopes (or responses will be returned to the wrong place — oops!)
Once the invites are printed, it’s final: make sure everything is correct.
2. Skip the Square Wedding Invitation.
A square invitation requires additional postage to mail. Stick to standard-sized invitations (5″ x 7″) to cut down on the additional costs of mailing.
3. Use Postcard RSVP cards.
In addition to saving paper (postcards require no envelope, yay!), by sending RSVP postcards vs. traditional cards with envelopes, you’ll save money on wedding invitations due to postage alone. Postcard stamps cost less than standard stamps, so including the self-addressed postage is a cost-saving in itself.
You can shop postcard response cards here.
4. Skip the Calligraphy and Do This Instead.
If you don’t have good handwriting, it’s OK! You don’t necessarily have to hire a calligrapher to get the same look.
One unique benefit of ordering your invitations on Minted is that you receive FREE guest addressing included with your order. What does this mean for you? Well, you’ll save money on wedding invites by having your envelopes pre-printed with your guest names and addresses for you.
And to top it off, the envelopes are included and the address printing looks awesome: it even rivals some calligraphy we’ve seen.
It’s all printed upon delivery, so you’ll save time, too. Just assemble your invites in the right order, add postage, and send. It’s never been easier!
5. Skip fancy printing styles.
An invitation with specialty styles such as letterpress or gold foiling will cost more. If you stick to standard digital printing, you can save significant costs on wedding invitations.
6. Choose All-In-One Wedding Invitations.
These all-in-one wedding invitations are one way to save money on wedding invitations.
They start at $1.50 per card. These are sealable invitations with everything included: no envelope is required to send them! There is even a perforated RSVP postcard included to make RSVPing so much easier.
Here are just a few examples (and there are more to see here).
7. Order wedding stationery at the same time.
If you’re an early bird, you’ll save money on wedding invitations by buying all of your stationery at once.
Buy save the dates, invitations, programs, signage (here are the wedding signs you will need), place cards, escort cards, and more all at once.
You’ll need these wedding stationery essentials: why not include them in the same ‘add to cart’ order?
When you do — and if you’re lucky to snag a discount code, frequently found on the top of this page, you’ll easily take huge savings off of your total stationery bill.
Plus, you’ll save money on shipping. Without the need to order more than once, you’ll save on shipping codes vs. repeat shipping fees.
