What size are wedding programs? Is there a certain size ceremony programs should be?
Those are some good questions. First, let’s talk about the purpose of a ceremony program.
Often overlooked until the very last moment (don’t let that be you), the ceremony program is an essential day-of stationery item.
A wedding program offers a unique opportunity to outline the Order of Events for the ceremony, detail the readings, who is reading or playing music, and introduce your wedding party attendants.
In addition, your wedding program serves as an excellent place to include a short “thank you” for your guests.
While most couples are focused on what the ceremony programs will look like, how many they need, and where to get wedding programs printed, there is one question you don’t hear very often: what size should wedding programs be?
Let’s discuss it!
The Proper Size of Wedding Programs
The size of the programs you select for your ceremony depends on what information you wish to convey.
Short and Sweet
If your wedding is small, or you strive for a minimalist style, you can keep the length of the programs short and sweet. In this case, a simple outline of the Order of Events is sufficient.
Don’t forget to include your names and the wedding date on the programs.
Go Big
Some couples wish to dig a bit deeper and include more details, and that’s up to you.
If doing so, include the following:
• Your Names and the Wedding Date
• The Ceremony’s Order of Events
• An Introduction to Your Wedding Party
Include the names and roles of your wedding party attendants.
• A Link to Your Wedding Website
This can be helpful for guests to access photo galleries after the wedding. (Don’t have one yet? Get a free wedding website here with all the bells and whistles.)
• Thank You
Include a short, meaningful message from you to your guests to thank them for attending.
That’s it!
The size of wedding programs really depends on the information you decide upon above so it all fits just right.
Standard Size of Wedding Programs
Long story short: there is no set rule about the size of wedding programs.
Traditionally speaking, the standard size of a wedding program is 4″ x 9.375″.
This allows the paper to be slightly narrow and long to fit a lot of text, but not too wide that it feels awkward in your guests’ hands.
In addition to size, wedding programs should withstand a little outdoor wind, so make sure they’re printed on cardstock so they do not easily blow. Surprisingly, cheap paper can make a lot of noise, especially in your video.
Unique Programs for Weddings
Now that you know what to look for, here are some examples of wedding program designs. When selecting a program, select a theme, color palette, and tone of formality to suit your needs.
