Ooh, pretty decorations are popping up today on the blog! And they are — you guessed it! — wedding balloon arches. We love these colorful, whimsical, and easy-to-DIY balloon garlands trending for weddings, showers, and parties: choose different sizes of balloons, variations of styles, and colors to really change up the look and personalize it for your wedding or event. Couples are using wedding balloons to deck out the cake table, embellish the head table, or as a chic backdrop along a photo wall. We’re also noticing arches created with balloons for guests to walk underneath as they’re guided to your reception space.
In this post, we’ll tell you the best places to buy wedding balloon garlands and arches, share tips for nailing the perfect look, and show you which balloon garlands are the most popular right now. Plus, we’ll tell you what you need to set up your balloons and what kind of pump you’ll want to use. ‘Cause believe us, you don’t want to blow up 100 balloons the morning of your wedding!
We were inspired for this post from one of our lovely readers, Ange, who writes:
“Dear Emmaline, Do you know where to get wedding balloon arches near me? I want one for my reception and can’t find them anywhere. I live in California. Thanks!”
Hi Ange! Great idea! We love balloon garlands and we definitely know where to buy the best ones near you — or, at least, shipped right to your door with step-by-step instructions. While you can buy regular balloons at any store, many of these balloons are specially designed to be used at weddings; therefore, we recommend buying them instead of heading to your local party supply store to inquire (if you don’t want to wait for shipping).
Setting up a chic balloon arch is easy, adds a ton of charm to your space, and is simple to construct yourself: promise! I love this look for weddings and I’m finding myself looking up ways to use these arches for birthday parties, too. Anyways, let’s get started!
Where to Buy Wedding Balloon Arches
Before you buy a balloon garland, what kind of style do you envision? How big do you want or need your balloon garland to be? In addition, consider the tone, theme, and colors of your wedding before you decide.
PRO TIP: Not sure about color combinations? No problem! Simply select a more neutral color palette: all white balloons with hints of gold balloons are a very popular and elegant option that goes with everything.
To help on your quest for the best balloon arches for weddings and parties, we’ve popped into our favorite shops — ha! — to find out what their hottest balloon garlands for weddings are right now. These brilliant balloon arch ideas will inspire you and help you create the arch of your dreams.

Wedding Balloon Arches: How to Make YOUR Balloons Look Their Best
If you’re going to buy a balloon arch for weddings or parties, you’ll want it to look absolutely beautiful – that’s a given! There’s a huge difference between many balloon arch kits you’ll find online. Here are a few tips to make sure you’re buying the best wedding balloon arches possible.
Thick Balloons = The Best Balloon Arches
Most high-quality balloons you buy are 2.5g in thickness, which is considered very good. But if you buy a thicker ballon — in the 3 – 3.5g range — you get a thick, quality balloon that is less likely to pop, has a better color depth and looks better than regular balloons.
Use a LOT of Balloons
How do you make a statement with balloons? With LOTS of them! You can’t get a balloon garland to look fantastic if you don’t use enough balloons, so use lots of them. The more balloons you use, the better your balloon arch will look. You don’t want a sparse, barely-there arch so you’ll want to aim for around 80-100 balloons. I know that sounds like a lot, but the wedding balloon garland kits you can buy online usually include this number of balloons to make sure you have plenty.
Use a Good Mix of Balloon Sizes
The trick to making a balloon arch look amazing is to use a mix of balloons in colors AND sizes. As a rule of thumb, you’ll want to use three different sizes of balloons in your design. Some kits include a mix of 5″, 9″ and 12″ inch balloons. Others include larger sizes of 5″, 11″, and 16″ inch sizes. You’ll also want to include a few large confetti balloons, if you’d like, to mix up a little texture; this is optional, but we encourage it (it looks amazing!)
Here is an example of a confetti balloon as an example (by Pom Tree):
What Do You Get in a Balloon Arch Kit?
Before you buy a wedding balloon arch, make sure you know exactly what you’re getting so there are no surprises. Every kit is different, so read the details before you buy (and add anything extra you need, as accordingly, like a pump, greenery/foliage, etc.) A professional balloon arch kit should include detailed instructions on how to construct your balloon garland.
Many balloon garland kids come with:
–balloons, in a variety of sizes,
–balloon decorating strip
–glue dots (if you are worried you need extra, you can buy extra glue dots here)
–dual-action balloon pump (if you need one, you can buy it here. It makes blowing up your balloons effortless!)
Here’s what a balloon pump looks like, she says, after she remembers blowing up 40+ balloons in the past few weeks for birthday parties, ha!
Isn’t that so much easier than blowing them up yourself? :)
Add Decorative Accents to Wedding Ballon Garlands
Decorative accents make balloon arches look even better! Many of the arch kits you can buy include “extras”, but feel free to add your own. Some of the best looking garlands have things like palm fronds (you can buy them here), faux eucalyptus/greenery like this. You can even add your own fresh flowers or greenery to the garland after you set it up on the day of your wedding.
A balloon arch looks great in front of a backdrop; one of our favorites right now is this fringe style backdrop, available in a ton of different colors + handmade with love by PomTree.
Cute! Makes a great backdrop for a photo booth, too!
Where to Set Up Your Balloon Arch at Your Wedding Reception
There are several great places to set up your balloon arch. Many couples choose to place the arch at the entryway of the reception, so guests see it immediately upon entering the space. You can include it nearby the escort cards/seating table, if you’d like.
Another location? Near the cake! A wedding balloon arch makes a fantastic decoration for your wedding cake table.
You can also use the arch to decorate any empty wall or space that needs a little something extra. :)
So, if you’re looking for balloon arch decorations for weddings, here’s the ultimate list to leave you feeling inspired! I wish these balloons
