If you want to wear a sweater with your bridal gown, but you’re not quite sure how to pull off the look, I got you covered. :) If your wedding is in winter, early spring, or fall, you may want to add a layer of warmth without taking away from your beautiful dress.
You shouldn’t have to freeze your you-know-what off outside just to snap some photos. If you’re someone who gets chilly all the time (hi, it’s me), the thought of a cozy bridal sweater probably sounds like a dream come true.
Oh, and a stylish sweater that looks good with your gown? That’s a win-win.
This blog post was inspired by a question from bride-to-be, Kelli, who is on a quest to find herself a beautiful bridal sweater to wear with her wedding dress. She writes,
“Hi Emmaline, I’m getting married in February and I need a bridal sweater or cardigan to wear with my wedding dress. Do you know what kind of sweater will look appropriate enough for a wedding? I don’t want it to look like I just threw it on. Thanks so much!”
Ah, I totally understand, Kelli: that feeling of just tossing on your usual cardigan isn’t the vibe you want from your wedding day wear. When shopping for a bridal sweater, go with a knitted cardigan or bolero, sweater or jacket that is ivory or white — the same color as your dress — and with hints of lace or fabric-covered buttons to give it that bridal look.
How to Choose a Bridal Sweater
It’s important to circle back here on the color: if your dress is ivory, choose an ivory sweater and not a white one. Why? The white will make your ivory dress look dirty.
The same goes for a white wedding dress and an ivory bridal sweater: the sweater will look like it is an old, faded sweater that you tossed on top of your gown.
That’s an important thing to note and many brides don’t remember that (especially for photos), so it’s worth noting. :)
To help you find the best sweater to match your wedding day style, here are some we found by PartOfMeDesign. They are handmade and highly rated and reviewed. If I were going to wear a bridal cardigan or sweater, this is where I would shop for it.
